Welcome to Worfdog.com. This site is named after Worf, a German Shepherd Dog, who for eleven years was a faithful family friend. Through this web site it is our purpose to not only keep his magnificent spirit alive but to also provide information about not only his breed, German Shepherd Dogs, but other dogs as well.
Worf was never a small dog. Even as a puppy just 4 weeks old his paws were to
big for his body. But that's how I identified him every time I went to visit him
and his liter mates. Lucky for me I knew his mom (Haze) and dad (Sherman) and
their owner very well. In fact they lived across the alley from me at the time
and I worked for their owner. When I was told that Haze and Sherman were going
to have puppies I knew I would get one.
Worf's dad Sherman was a long hair German Shepherd Dog and his mom Haze was a
more standard brown and tan German Shepherd. Their liter numbered eleven
puppies, which is large for German Shepherds. I was given first pick and chose
the one with the biggest paws, not realizing of course just how big he would
get.
Just how big did he get? During most of his adult life he weighed between 145
to 150 pounds. He was big for a German Shepherd. But he was gentle for as big
and powerful as he was. He didn't bark much, he was protective of his family and
friends, in a passive way. Basically he would position himself between whoever
he felt it was his duty to protect and the perceived threat and then he would
sit down and watch. Basically saying if you wish harm upon those I care about
you'll have to go through me first. He wasn't aggressive, just alert.
Oh, and he was named after the Klingon, Worf, from the Star Trek The Next
Generation series. He was a puppy at the time that show ran and it seemed to fit
at that time and as it did for the rest of his life.
Now that he's been taken from us in his eleventh year of life he is missed.
Because of his size he lived along time, more than 90 years would be the human
equivalent. His life was full of love and friendship and chasing sticks, going
on hikes and even climbing 13,000 foot mountains.
Through this site Worf's spirit will live and the tale of his life can be
told.
